Do you remember how in school we would get talks?
About drugs, alcohol and substance abuse
And all the other dangerous things out there
That we were supposed to
Stay away from
But what they didn’t caution about
Were late night conversations over steaming mugs of coffee with a boy
Whose very smile was capable of making your stomach do back flips and somersaults
Or whose lips would curve into a smile
Against your lips making your pulse race dangerously fast
Protecting, shielding us that’s what they said
From harmful things
But they forgot to mention
To warn me
About
You.
