I’m getting sick of people saying that Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift (and anyone else, for that matter) are whores.

Do I agree with everything Miley did at the VMAs, no, there where kids there (and some watching from home) and she should have made it a lot less raunchy, for them, had it been something that was all adults and late teens, I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Do I agree with Taylor Swift calling her exes out (usually very blatantly) in both songs and on stage? No. I don’t think that she, being a role model for many young girls, should call her exes out.

But I am not them. I am not their parents. It is not my business, or your business, what they do with their lives. The only people who should be concerned and involved, are themselves, their parents (when under 18), and their friends. Not yours.

We life in a culture that promotes democratic values of being fair to one and all, the importance of fitting into a group, and knowing how to cooperate with other people. We are taught early on in life that those who are outwardly combative and aggressive pay a social price: unpopularity and isolation. These values of harmony and cooperation are perpetuated in subtle and not-so-subtle ways - through books on how to be successful in life; through the pleasant, peaceful exteriors that those who have gotten ahead in the world present to the public; through notions of correctness that saturate the public space.
