Today at school, I
had a lesbian
substitute. Now,
I'm not just being mean here because she had short hair,
but "I'm a
lesbian and proud" was on her wrist.
So, in class, she looks at her
phone, laughs, and says, "That's so
gay!" really loud before smacking a hand over her
mouth, eyes wide with shock.
Do any of you realize the impact it had on me? A woman, who is
continuously harassed and
judged by prejudice people is now saying derogitory slurs
against herself out of habit. This is the effect our words
have on people. We say those 3
words so often, that a woman who boldy loves another
woman used the term, "That's so gay!" at a text she
read from her girlfriend.
Do you see where I'm coming from
here? So please, think about your word choice before you go to
say something.
