Does he love it when I smile? Do my eyes
really sparkle, too? Has he ever
cried over me? Will he ever?

Do his knees get wobbly when
I say
hello? Does he talk & laugh louder
when I walk in the room? Has he
ever had
u n c o n t r o l l a b l e butterflies
at the sound of my voice?
Does he talk about me with his friends?
Does it kill him to see me flirting with other
guys? Has he ever thought he
doesn't deserve me, but holds high hopes
anyways?
Or, has he EVER thought about me
the way I think of him?
I have to wonder

I think best friends
are the ones who have been
through what you’ve been
through. They understand
where you’re coming from

It’s always a challenge
to stick by a friend who’s
making choices we don’t

even dangerous, but it’s
at these times that our
best friends need us most.

to get these codes to work:
you have to hit the "source" button and copy the code there.  hit the "source" button again and it will remove your code from the screen.  when you begin typing it will have the effect you want it to.  if you want to add or remove codes, you can hit the "source" button again to take them off or delete them.

homerun
part #109

"well if it helps, i don't have any plans tonight." she said, with a smile.  i looked back towards where i walked in.
"i don't, but i think my friends will have something planned." i said, and rolled my eyes.
"well, you can just say whatever you want, whenever you want." she said.  i eyed her up.  she had long platinum blonde hair, that was put into a bun on her head, with her sunglasses pushed back.  she wasn't as tan as i thought, her hair was just a contrast.  she looked like a mini-person.  she only had her sunglasses on, and a necklace that was hidden in her hoodie.  i only saw the silver chain around her neck.
"or, if you want, i can talk." she said.
"you can go first." i said.  just to see how much she was willing to tell me.
"okay. my names erica, and i'm a lifeguard here.  i work all summer, and i'm just here to get more tuition money." she said.
"you're in college?" i asked.
"no." she smiled, "not yet. I'm a senior. but i want to work some money now so i'm not loaded in student loans."
"oh, your parents aren't putting you through school?"  i asked.  "i'm sorry." i said.  "feel free to stop me if i'm asking too many questions."
"no, it's okay." she smiled.  she was looking into my eyes, looking for something.  she wasn't going to find anything in my eyes.  i had nothing to hide.
"no, i want to put myself through school, so i'm not dependent on my parents." she said.
"oh. i'm a senior too." i said.
"wow, you look older.  i mean you're just so, big." she said. "but don't take that the wrong way."
"no, it's okay.  and yea i'm a senior.  what are you majoring in?" i asked
"nursing." she said.  my heart ached.  "what about you?"
"psychology." i said.
"cool.  but i've been working here since i was 15.  i love the water." she said, staring out into the ocean.  "i could swim since i could walk.  i've never lost anyone on the job." she said, and looked down at the ground.  "except for one." she said, and she pulled at her neck, and was playing with something on her necklace.  she was silent for a second.  she looked up at me for a second, and her expression was very pained.
"you. you don't have to tell me about it." i offered.
she breathed deeply, and said. "no it's okay.  i'm better now."  she said, and looked up at me, and nodded her head.  "when i was 14, i was young, and guys that age were vocal." she said, and smiled.  "you should remember." i forced a smile, but i don't think it was too convincing.
"well, i was working, and one kid came up to me on the stand, and tapped my foot.  he introduced himself, and his name was sean.  he was very good-looking.  but i was scared i would get in trouble for talking to someone when i was supposed to be watching.  he wouldn't give up, and he kept talking to me.  so i went along with it, and i gave him my number, cause he promised he would take me out later.  he was two years older, and i went goo-goo." she said, and she realized she was getting off track  "anyways, we talked, and we realized we lived closer to each other than we thought, and i hung out with him all summer.  i swore he was my prince charming."  she stopped.  "okay, i'm going to warn you, my story doesn't have a happy ending." she said.
"it's okay." i promised.  "mine's at a not so good point now."
"okay." she breathed deeply again.  "he would come and visit me during the year, because he was 15 minutes away, and he went to a private school.  we started dating, and going out a lot.  he was everything i ever wanted in a boyfriend.  so we came down one weekend in the summer for our 3 year anniversary."  she clutched her necklace in both hands.  what was she holding on to?
"he was only a sophomore in college, and he proposed to me." she smiled.
"i was so happy, i was so excited, but he made me promise until was done school, high school and college, that he would marry me.  this was just so he knew he was mine.  so i started my junior year, with people confused why i was engaged, but i couldn't have been happier.  we came down in the winter for the polar plunge.  i wasn't going to do it, but he bet his uncle he could do it.  so against my wishes, he did it."  she was telling the story slower, so i knew there wasn't much left.
"he was in the water, and he suffered from frostbite, and then he was so cold, but he didn't recognize it, and he was in the water, and he was so cold, his heart stopped."  i looked at her, and her eyes were glistening, and tears were trailing down the side of her face.
"i'm sorry." i said.
"no it's okay.  i keep him close, but never too far away. "she said, and she showed me what she was holding in her hands.  it was a beautiful ring, silver with a diamond in the middle. really simple.  and then next to it was a silver locket, and she opened it, and there was a picture of just him, and then one of them kissing.  it remiinded me of the one of me and devon, and my eyes started to sting.
"it'll be a year on december 30th." she said.
"i'm really sorry.  it's hard when your true love goes away."
"i know.  you sortof looked like him from the back, and you looked lonely." she smiled, and wiped her eyes.
"yea.  my story isn't exactly like yours.  but it is like my love died.  a little different though." i said, and she dried her eyes, and listened to what i had to say.
