Imperfection. - C H A P T E R S E V E N - ------------------------ Our brain has a subconscious way of reminding us of events and situations that we may have made an effort to forget. Sometimes we purposefully make a decision to do something that will alter our memories, or give us a certain type of 'high' - such as consuming alcohol. Alcohol takes away all better judgement within our minds and makes us do or say things that we normally would not, simply because we don't know any better. However, they say that a drunken mans words are a sober mans thoughts. I rolled over to a bright stream of sunlight coming through my window, and one of the most painful headaches I have ever experienced. Groaning, I pulled my blankets over my head. Wait. My window? My blankets? I sat up and looked around. I was in my room, which was not where I was expecting to be after the party. Not that, at that particular point in time, I could remember much at all. The clock on my bedside table read 11:17 and I wondered why my mother had let me sleep in for so long. I closed my eyes and tried to think back to the night before. I remembered arriving, then Rosalie left Serena and I on our own… Serena. Images of Serena and Jay flashed across my mind, and then the boy that I had attempted to hook up with as a rebound. I realised I didn't even know his name. I put my clothes back on and went back out to the party… and that's when I started drinking. I got out of bed and went over to the mirror - I looked like a wreck. I noticed something sticking out of the ribbon around my waist. A piece of paper. I took it out, opened it and had a look. There was what appeared to be a phone number, then the words "call me", a small heart, and a name. Matthew. I decided that must have been the name of the boy. I had stayed with him the whole night, he must have taken me home. Although how he knew where I lived was another mystery. I went to take a shower, to get rid of the combined smell of alcohol and vomit, and to come out the rats nest that was my hair. After a good forty minutes, I went back into my room and sat on my bed in my towel. I took a deep breath and tried to sort through my thoughts. Obviously Jay was not a very good person, if he was making out and who knows what else with my best friend. But then again, obviously my best friend isn't a very good person either. Tears threatened to spill out of my eyes so I decided to stop thinking about it for now. I reached for my phone. Seven text messages and four missed calls. All from Rosalie. All the messages basically said to "call me back as soon as you get this". So that's exactly what I did. "Kaela! Kaela I need to tell you something I saw!" this was how Rosalie answered the phone. "Rose, I know. I saw it too." There was a shocked pause. "As in, Serena and.. And.." she trailed off, clearly not wanted to finish the sentence. "Yes, Serena and Jay. I saw them, and I'm okay with it, don't worry about it." I knew that she wouldn't realise that I was lying through my teeth, as Serena would have if the situation was reversed. "Oh.. Oh, okay. Well, I have to go. We have visitors. I just thought you should know," Rosalie was clearly confused about my apparent lack of interest in the matter. "Okay Rose. Thank you. I'll see you tomorrow." "Bye!" Rosalie said and hung up the phone. Now to start on my revenge. ------------------------ -Chapter seven, a bit boring but next chapter will be better, I promise! Imperfection. - C H A P T E R N I N E - ------------------------ "The heart does things for reasons which reason does not understand". Like love, for instance. How many high school couple do you see, and think to yourself, 'how the hell did those two get together?' We fall for the most unexpected people, for no particular reason. Sure, you have to couples where you can see exactly why they're together and how it happened, but then five metres to the right you'll have a jock and an artsy girl making out. You don’t choose who you fall in love with. "We're here." were the words that pulled me out of a trance. I looked up to see that the car had stopped moving. "Where exactly is here?" “My guess is as good as yours,” Matthew said. “But it looks nice, right? Come on,” cutting the engine and getting out of the car. I stepped out, shut the door and turned to look at the brilliant green that was the park we had pulled up to. There were a couple of picnic tables and what appeared to be some sort of forest across the other side of a long paddock that could be used for playing all sorts of sport. It took me a second to figure out why this park looked so intimidating, and I never fully understood. It might have had something to do with the fact that it was all so, so green, whereas all other grass anywhere near my house or school was an odd shade of yellow due to lack of rainfall. Matt walked around to my side of the car and took my hand. I looked up slightly at his face, and for the first time noticed the colour of his eyes. They were blue, but not sky blue or ocean blue, more like the colour one might paint the walls of their house, a navy sort of colour. They were the closest thing to black eyes I had ever seen and it scared me a little bit. "Walk with me?" he said. I smiled and nodded. We walked for what seemed like hours, across the paddock and over to the bushland, where there was a well-worn trail that we didn’t walk on. He led me through the forest, neither of us speaking a single word bar a thanks when he moved a stray branch or helped me over a fallen log. I had no idea where he could possibly be taking me, or why, until finally we reached a clearing at the top of a mountain. I looked up to see the most beautiful view I had ever seen in my life. It was like being on top of the world, looking down on every natural beauty all in one spot. There was a crystal clear river running down the mountain adjacent to the one we were on, and everything in sight was just so green. There was still a glistening from the rain of that morning, adding an almost fairytale-like effect to the whole scene. "It's… amazing!" I breathed, trying to take in everything around me. "Kinda like you," Matt said. Well that was cute. I jumped when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out to see Rose's name on the screen. I sighed and opened the message. "Hey gurl! Whatcha up too? :) was wondering if you wanted to go to a party tonight? Idk who's it is, but it's gunna be preeeetty good! Let me know! oxox" I figured that I probably should go. After all, who was I to turn down an opportunity to socialise and get drunk. I looked up at Matt. Or, I could spend the rest of the afternoon with him, have an early night and actually feel good about myself in the morning. I pressed reply. "hey rose :) sorry, I think I'll pass on this one. Have fun! Xo" The next thing I did surprised even me. As I put my phone back in my pocket, I felt my thumb around to the side of it, flipping the off button, and turned back to face Matt. "So what are we doing here?" As I asked that, he grabbed my hand again, pulling me close to him. "This," he said.
