- Regrets & Mistakes 5. Saturday Morning, I woke up at about 12. I knew Kennedy wouldn't be awake until 1, if I was lucky. I was texting Skylar, he wanted to hang out with me today. Skylar was just a cute boy I've known since about fifth grade. We tried being a "couple" in eighth grade, and it didn't work. We've been best friends since I can remember. He didn't text me back for about an hour, but when he finally did, he asked me if I could hang out today. I had nothing better to do, so I said yes. I didn't have to put on a fake mask, flashy clothes, or anything like that for Skylar. I could be myself, and that's why he's my best friend. I could almost say I love him, but it just doesn't sound right. At about 4, I went to his house. Our families are really close, so it wasn't awkward. It was a really rainy day, so I drove my brother's car over. He's in Mississippi visiting friends. Aidan Murray. My19 year old brother. Been my best friend since Day 1. I got to Sky's house and rang the doorbell. He answered the door barely a second after I rang the doorbell. He gave me the biggest hug I ever got from him. He's the kind of guy that you can trust with all of your secrets, vent, and just be honest with. I hadn't hung out with him for months, so we spent about 2 hours just catching up. "So do you have a boyfriend?" he asked me, while fiddling around with something silver in his hand. "No, I haven't for a while," I said insecurely. "How's your love life?" "I still don't have a girlfriend..." where was he going with this? "Other than you, I still haven't been with anyone...or kissed anyone." If he tries to...I'll kill him. "I still love you, you know that right?" I could not believe he admitted something like that to me. I sat there, staring at his hazel eyes. I was in a total gaze, just staring at him. "I still love you too, Skylar." Thank God I finally said it. It was like a "The Notebook" movie moment. He gave me that irresistible smile of his, and before I could say another word, he was kissing me. It was the most meaningful kiss I've ever experienced. Almost unbelievable. He wasn't like most guys. He didn't start trying to take my shirt off, or get in my pants. He was genuine, and was just taking the kiss as it was. I knew that I could never get over someone like Skylar. He was simply amazing. "Skater" light brown hair, a perfect straight smile, shining hazel eyes. He had to be mine. Next, the doorbell rang. Worst timing possible. I could barely see his front door, but I saw a girl that looked in her 20's. They were talking quietly. I minded my own business and texted Kennedy to come to my house at about 7. He started walking back. I wasn't sure if I should ask him who she was and what she wanted. Lucky for me, he straight up told me. "That girl at the door was my brother's girlfriend. He wanted to ask me if I've seen him lately." "Oh, well have you?" No, ever since he moved out and moved in with her, I'm lucky if I see him once a month. Emily's great, but I think she's hiding something." I started feeling bad for him. He had a look on his face, and I could tell that something was wrong. I didn't say anything though. "I'm sorry. Do your parents know about Adam and Emily?" "Yeah, but they don't see what I do in Emily. Sometimes I wish they weren't so oblivious. They're both in Chicago on some business trip until Tuesday." I admit, they have been oblivious the past years. Skylar did drugs and they didn't do anything other than kick him out. for a night, and that's when he came to my house. "Can I tell you something?" He asked me. He knows he can trust me. "Of course. Shoot." "Remember in eighth grade and I told you how I wanted to commit suicide?" "Yeah... what about it?" I asked surprisingly. - Paper Heart 1. As I tied my long, red, blonde-highlighted hair in a messy bun, I watched my new best friend Anna apply a thin line of eyebrow pencil. I'm adjusting to the new temperature, along with my new friends. Anna and I are going to the beach today, to get my fair skin tanned, and to meet some new people to be with. San Diego is completely different from Seattle. It's so much more sunny, and the people and atmosphere has a definite change. "So do you havse a boyfriend from Seattle?" Anna asked me, as she applied a layer of sunscreen on her face and neck. "There was this one guy Jackson, but we both agreed we'd never see each other, so that ended." I said, fixing bobbypins in my hair. "Oh. Well, when we get to the beach, we can look for some cute guys." Anna said under hear breath, smiling. I just gave her a simple grin back. "Ow," I complained. I didn't realize how tight my bikini top was. I attempted loosening it by myself, but Anna came right to my aid. "Tight enough?" she mumbled, as she tried multi-tasking texting and fixing my top. I nodded. We were done getting ready, and headed off to the beach. It was a somewhat short walk, but I wasn't used to walking too much back in Seattle. I could finally see the horizon of the beach. Along with some girls and guys playing volleyball. I was dazing off at the hazy blue ocean and out of the corner of my eye I see Anna jump on and wrap her legs around a tall, dirty blonde boy. My guess is that's her boyfriend. Yep, boyfriend. He put her down lightly, and they had a perfect kiss. They both walked over to me, holding hands. "Hey, Kienna! This is my boyfriend, Jet." She said with the happiest expression on her face. I waved at him, and before I knew it, I saw 3 other guys about my age walk up to me and Anna. "This is Grant, Russel, and Jared." Anna introduced them all at once. "Hey," is all I could say. They were all so cute. "Wanna play some volleyball?" asked Russel, and before I knew it Anna and I were playing volleyball with some Cali boys. ** Sorry for the slow start! If it wasn't for me, wanting to play basketball with her, she wouldn't be going through this. It was already four days, and she hasn't woken up. On the fifth day, I saw her eyes gently open. "Kelsey?" I called. She wasn't quite awake yet. Suddenly, doctors came rushing in, telling me I had to wait outside. I did, for a few hours. One of the doctors finally came out saying, "I understand that you're Kelsey's friend, Aaron?" "Yes," I whispered. He bit his lip. "She woke up, she's fine, but I'm afraid she has long term memory loss." "Are you serious?" I almost shouted. "I'm afraid so." I didn't meet his gaze. I couldn't. I wasn't going to say anything, so he spoke again. "You can go see her if you want, but she doesn't remember anything, not even her mom." I walked in, trembling in horror. I saw her. She looked helpless as she slept. I waited a few hours, until I saw her eyes opening gently again. I expected doctors to run in, rushing me out. Instead, she looked me straight in the eyes, and whispered, "I don't know you, but I like your eyes."
