Only Chance Chapter 1 “Just please go inside Jake,” I said to him, expecting that he would actually listen to what I was saying. I try to walk away but he moves his body right in front of mine. “I can’t let you leave me, not like this. I still love you Cory,” Jake says as he wraps his arms around me. I push him of and hear the sound of a car. It was his dad's old white, beat-up car. “I’m telling him you came here to break up with me. This isn’t worth lying about. If you really want to go then just leave,” he says with a tear falling down the side of his cheek. I walk away tearing up, hoping that the tears will cease as soon as possible in hopes that no one will see me. “Cory!” I hear from the distance, “I still love you!” I roll my bloodshot eyes at him and walk even faster. I didn’t know where to go. Home was far and I could never walk that on my own. I try to pull out my phone but the second it reaches the end of my pocket it falls to the ground. I burst into tears again. I grab my phone and collapse onto the sidewalk right where I am. What have I done? Is it really the right thing? Is this really better for me? I think about it for a second, but soon I realize I have done the right thing. He broke me once; I will not let him do that again. Once I catch my breath and stop crying, I move on. I call my best friend Hanna and tell her to go to Duchess, which was the only place I could think of going other than home. As I began walking, I see a car slowing down towards me.
