9th May.
Tyger-Joseph Penland was born today at 12.30am. He weighed at 9lb 3oz and is just gorgeous. Though I would say that being his mother. We had visitors come to the hospital to see me and him. They bought every type of baby gift you could imagine. From t-shirts to teddies and discount cards to dummies, the hospital room is full of gifts. I went into labour with Tyger at nine o’clock this morning and after an uncomfortable three and a half hours of contractions and screaming and such he came and the pain of having him instantly went. When he was handed to me I couldn’t stop crying and the whole world was lit up. ‘Hello, Tyger.’ I said addressing him. ‘Hello, Tyger, I’m your mommy. Yes I am, I’m your mommy’ it was all I could manage to say at the time. I knew his name before I had him as I had always loved the name Tyger and I added the name Joseph to Tyger because of my dad, Joseph Penland. Tyger looked up at me and stuck his tiny tongue out. He squealed a bit and thrashed around but he stayed pretty much where he was. Then he began to sleep. I felt tired to so I handed my new born son to my dad and tucked myself up for a kip. He squealed and squirmed and I heard my dad say ‘Tyger, hello hunny, I’m your granddad. Shall we let mommy sleep and go and meet uncle Henry outside?’ he loves the idea of being a granddad and wants to teach Tyger how to play football and rugby and everything. My older brother Henry is a international rugby player and he plays for south Africa and live there too, he came home last week to watch me while dad worked, he slowly warmed to my bump and I home he falls in love with Tyger too. Even though it was twelve o’clock and there was light pouring into my hospital room I had, had a rough day and hadn’t been sleeping much because little unborn Tyger would kick me every time I lay on my side, and I had to lie on my back and I hate that. The things I do for that child! Anyway, I sat up after a minute or two to gulp the chocolate milk my dad had bought for me after leaving Tyger with Henry in the empty cubicle next to me. I forced the chocolate milk down and did a burp I was immensely ashamed of and settled back down to sleep. I heard Henry saying ‘eww dirty mommy, eww Tyger, mommy burped’ as I drifted off.
My name is Dionne Penland and I am sixteen years old.
