June
Chapter 1
As I was looking up through the
trees, the sunlight hit my face, and warmed up my cheeks. This
was my favorite place, a little creek right behind my elementary
school that was magical to me. It made me feel like a little kid,
it made me feel that I could explore anything and everything. I
looked to my side, and saw him. I was at my favorite place with
my favorite person, but he didn’t know that just yet. I met
Greg in the winter of my 6th grade year. He was only in 5th
grade, and things seemed so simple back then. Greg & I would
hang out with other friends and always have a good time together.
It’s been a year now, and it seems like we’re
inseparable, which I didn’t mind. “Do you want
to go get some pizza? I’m starting to get pretty
sweaty.” he laughed. “Yeah sounds good.” I
responded. We walked up to Frank’s Pizza and sat down. I
only had a couple of dollars shoved into my shorts, so I decided
to order a slice. Greg got pizza & fries, and we didn’t
mind sharing a root beer. “Can you believe summer is almost
over?”
“Haha, I’m upset about
it too. But you’re going to be in school with me this
year.” I said a little bit too
excitedly.
“You bet, I’m
gonna’ shove you into lockers all the time now” he
teased with a smile. I smiled back. Just then, Greg’s face
got serious, and he looked nervous. “Greg, what’s
wrong?” I said.
“June, you worry too much.
It’s just that since summer is almost over, I want to
buckle down and have a really good year, starting with an amazing
girlfriend by my side.”
For some stupid reason, I had
the idea in my head that Greg was talking about me, so I started
to smile and say something but he cut me off. “June, I
think I’m falling for Megan Petersen.” My smile faded
in a matter of seconds. “Megan Petersen?” I swallowed
the lump that was starting to form in my
throat.
“Yeah, isn’t she pretty?
I know you don’t really know her that well but I’m
sure you’ll get to know her and like her. I really want you
to meet her.”
Just then, a bubbly blonde walked
through the shop’s doors. I felt the stinging in the back
of my eyes, and wanted to bolt out, but I couldn’t get out
of it now. I forced a smile and turned to Megan. “Hi,
I’m June, nice to meet you.”
