Holding On Sequal to Meant To Be Title Idea Credit: sundaerules (follow her!) Chapter 13 *Sophia* "Sure you're going to do alright?" asked my mom before i headed off to school. "I'll be fine! I made up all the homework, i'm caught up," i said, reassuring her. "I'm not talking about the school work and you know it," she said, squeezing my shoulders. "Nobody is going to say anything, people aren't that mean," i lied. My mom raised her eyebrows, "Yeah ok. But you call home if anyone does. Got that?" I nodded and headed outside into the spring air. It was April now and here in northern California it was warming up, finally no more snow. Yes i know you're probably tihnking snow in California? It was true, i lived at the very northern tip of California so yes, we did get snow. Anyway, enough with the weather lesson and back to the story known as my life. I climbed on the bus and took a seat near the back, by myself. I couldn't wait to get my license next month, no more bus! 15 minutes later the bus stopped in front of Slutton High. It look intimidating. I took a deep breath and got off. As i strolled through the halls to my locker i did notice people doing a double take, and not because i looked good. I heard whispers. "She's back." "Didn't she go mental?" "I thought she died." and many others. My eyes opened when people said they thought i died. What kind of rumors were swirling around here? I finally reached my locker and just as i put my bag in there my friends raced up behind me. I nearly screamed until i saw it was them. I laughed, "You guys! I scare easily!" "That's right. Blondes scare easily," said Leah, giggling. We started talking until i saw Ethan making his way towards me. "I need to go," i said, grabbing my books and taking off in the opposite direction. *Ethan* I needed to talk to Sophia. I spotted her at her locker being crowded by her friends, she was laughing and smiling. So beautiful. I started towards her, her blue eyes locked with mine and her expression changed from happy to frightened. She didn't look mad, she looked scared. She quickly grabbed her books so i sped up my pace. Sophia took off in the opposite direction and i tried to keep up with her but her friends blocked my way. "Don't even talk to her," said Marnie. "Please, i just need to clear the air," i begged. "She doesn't want to hear from you," said Addie. "Besides, you're girlfriend is waving to you," said Marnie. I turned to see Lizette waving at me. "Lizette isn't my girlfriend!" i roared. "Keep telling yourself that. But Sophia thinks you guys are done," said Leah. "Come on girls, we don't need to waste time talking to this loser." I watched them go and felt a dainty hand rest on my shoulder. "Who cares about her or her friends?" i heard Lizette say with her soft, sensual voice. "I do," i said, shrugging her hand off and storming down the hall.

We met in kindergarten. We were best friends. She always told me she loved my eyes. I didn't quite know why. I was in love with her, so of course my face lit up immensely whenever she said it. She was beautiful, kind, and extremely funny. We'd be talking about nothing, and she'd turn to me and whisper, "I like your eyes." One day, I was playing basketball, waiting for her to drive over to my house to have a game with me. Suddenly, I got a phone call. It was her mom. She was in a panic. I couldn't quite understand what she was saying. It sounded like, "Aaron, come quick! Kelsey, accident, Main Street! Blood. Come now!" I had no clue what happened, so I ran to Main Street with my basketball shorts and a tee shirt on. I saw Kelsey's mom helplessly crying, waiting for the ambulance to arrive. I saw a totaled car, blood everywhere. Then I saw her, Kelsey. My heart stopped as I frantically ran over to her. "Kelsey? Kelsey!" She was unconscious. I started crying. I know it isn't very manly, but I couldn't help it. Before I could say anymore, the medics took her away, the main source of blood coming from her head. I went to the hospital that night, I went every night. in fact, the only time I left was to go out to eat, but that's it. The doctors tried getting me to leave, but I refused. It was all my fault. If it wasn't for me, wanting to play basketball with her, she wouldn't be going through this. It was already four days, and she hasn't woken up. On the fifth day, I saw her eyes gently open. "Kelsey?" I called. She wasn't quite awake yet. Suddenly, doctors came rushing in, telling me I had to wait outside. I did, for a few hours. One of the doctors finally came out saying, "I understand that you're Kelsey's friend, Aaron?" "Yes," I whispered. He bit his lip. "She woke up, she's fine, but I'm afraid she has long term memory loss." "Are you serious?" I almost shouted. "I'm afraid so." I didn't meet his gaze. I couldn't. I wasn't going to say anything, so he spoke again. "You can go see her if you want, but she doesn't remember anything, not even her mom." I walked in, trembling in horror. I saw her. She looked helpless as she slept. I waited a few hours, until I saw her eyes opening gently again. I expected doctors to run in, rushing me out. Instead, she looked me straight in the eyes, and whispered, "I don't know you, but I like your eyes."
