Chapter 19
 

I sat in the back seat with Clayton and Shane, hoping I'd avoid my mom's wrath but she yelled at me anyway, saying what I did was reckless and immature. I knew Clayton was taking those insults to heart because everything she was saying related to him too. Shane's house couldn't have come fast enough. When it did, we both got out and stopped infront of his door.
"I'm really sorry tonight didn't go as planned," I said.
"That's okay. But Ash, that's Clayton in the car."
"Yeah, I know. So what?"
"How many times have I told you I don't like him?"
"Alright, listen up, Shane. Clayton is my friend. He's hurt and he needs me. And you know what? I'm going to stay with him until he is better wheater my boyfriend approves of it or not. So if you don't like it, say the word and we're over. Either that or you trust me."
Shane was silent for a moment.
"Fine, I trust you. But just be careful."
"I will."
"And, Ash. I love you."
"I love you, too," I replied and he pulled me in for a kiss that was interrupted by my mom's too loud car horn.
I got back into the car and sat next to Clayton.
"Are you okay? You look sick."
"No, I'm fine. Just tired."
"Clay, is your arm supposed to be like that?"
"Probably not but it's nothing a good night's sleep won't fix."
"Clayton, I really think you should go to the hospital."
"You know I can't." I looked at him, pleadingly.
"Please," I begged.
"If' it's money you need, we can help you," my mom added from the front.
"I never said that," Clayton replied.
"It's obvious what your problem is, Clayton. I can't be a millionaire and keep the money to myself. Honestly, take it."
"No, I couldn't."
"You know what, I don't want to hear it. Look, the hospital is right here anyway. We're going."
Clayton tried to protest but in the end, Clayton was taken through the hospital, papers were signed and he was on his way to get fixed up.
