Chapter
16.
When we arrived in New York, all of my friends were at the
airport waiting for me.
"EMMM!" screamed Libby from across the airport.
She ran up to me and suffocated me with a hug. Issabelle
and Callista quickly joined the hug.
"I missed you guys so much!" I exclaimed while giving
them all a hug.
"We all missed you too!" added Issabelle.
Callista and Libby nodded their heads in agreement.
After we got our luggage, my mom rented a car to take us to the
Plaza. The Plaza building is where we used to live when we
were still living in New York. The Plaza had 4 sections on
every floor, and we lived on the very top floor in section
2. The Plaza sections were much nicer than houses.
They each had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room,
and a deck. Not to mention, they had maids to clean the
rooms instead of having to clean them yourself. The Plaza
was also right next to where my mom used to work, and where I
used to go to school. My mom arranged for us to stay in our
same section we had when we still lived here. This really
made me miss New York. When we walked in the front doors at
the Plaza, I greeted all the workers. They all quickly
recognized me. I had known most of these workers since I
was 3. After my dad left for the marines, they were all my
second parent. We checked in and headed up to our
room. Right when we entered, I recognized everything.
The sights, the sounds, the smells. It felt so good to be
home again. I unpacked all of my stuff into the drawers of
my bedroom dresser.
I then texted Libby.
E: Hey Libbb! What'ss the plans ferr tonightt?(:
L: Hey! We're all going to the movies with the guys! You can
come, right?! We're meeting in the Plaza lobby at
6!(:
E: Yeah, i'll be there broo!(:
I knew when she said guys, she meant Nolan, Noah, Carson, and
Ethan. I suddenly got a sick feeling in my stomach when
Ethan's name came into my head. It was an
un-describable feeling. I hadn't thought of Ethan since
I'd met Josh. Ethan was my ex-boyfriend. We were
together for nearly a year, and I loved him, but we both knew
long distance relationships never worked. We decided to end
our relationship in the summer when I left for California.
The worst part? He broke up with me over text. I
havn't seen Ethan in a while, but I couldn't wait to show
him how good i've been doing without him. It was 6:00
in California, and only 5:00 here, so I decided to call Josh
before we left for the movies. I grabbed my phone, and
headed outside the door that had steps leading up to the
roof. I leaped up the steps and sat down on the roof with
my feet dangling over the side of the building. A 30 story
drop lied beneath my feet. I pressed Josh's speed dial
on my phone and waitied for him to pick up. It rang 3
times, then finally a voice said hello, but it wasn't
Josh. It was a girl, and she sounded our age.
"Uhh, I, uhh, must have the wrong number," I
stuttered.
"Well are you looking for Josh?" she said in a peppy
voice.
"Yes." I said a little un easily.
"I'll get him for you!" she said happily.
"Joshy Poo!" I heard her yell. "Some girl
wants to talk to you!"
I felt my heart drop as a few tears started to roll down my
face. Why was he with a girl?
Then suddenly Josh came to the phone.
"Emma, this isn't what it sounds like." he said
quickly.
"Sorry, wrong number." I mumbled through my tears.
I knew he knew it was me, because he had caller ID on his
phone.
"Emma waii--"
I hung
up.

Chapter
3
The next morning, I woke up with my
pale blue blankets on the floor.
I sniffed, as the strong aroma of bacon and pancake mix filled my
nose.
My stomach began to rumble, as I licked my lips, eager for
something to eat.
I quickly took a cold shower, and brushed my teeth.
I threw on a floral off shoulder top, and a pair of white
shorts.
I ran down the stairs, just to see my father placing a big stack
of pancakes on the diner table.
"Good morning, dad." I polietly said, sliding in a
wooden seat.
My dad chuckled, as he smiled. "Good morning, Colby. Eat up,
I remember my chocolate chip pancakes were your
favorite."
I drizzled my pancakes in thick syrup, as I took a big bite,
letting the flavor soak in my mouth.
I hadn't eaten my dad's pancakes in years, not after him
and my mother got a divorce.
"These are great." I complimented.
My dad smiled, as his eyes twinkled with happiness.
"I'm glad you're back with me, Colby. I've
missed you throughout these years."
I took in a deep breath, "I missed you, too."
I finished my breakfast, as I offered to wash the dishes.
"Colby, are you doing anything today?" my father called
out from the living room.
"Actually, I am. I made a friend last night." I
replied, drying off the platter.
"Really? That was fast. When are you going out?" he
asked.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, as I flinched from surprise.
"I guess now." I grinned secretly, jogging up to the
door.
I took in a deep breath before opening the door to see Harry.
I swung the door wide open, as Harry stood on my front steps,
grinning.
"Hey, Colby. Ready to go?" Harry asked.
I looked over my shoulder, and waved bye to my dad.
"I'm going out now, dad. Bye!" I smiled, sprinting
out the doorway.
Harry laughed at me, as I nearly tripped over a step, but
balanced myself out.
I blushed with embarassment, and slapped his shoulder.
"It's not funny." I grumbled, fixing my top.
"We are meeting with your friend's today,
right?"
Harry nodded, as he bit down on his lower lip.
"Yeah... we're going to see them at the beach."
There Harry goes again with his sudden hesitation.
What was up with him?
We paced to the beach in silence, which I wasn't too fond
of.
Harry's eyes shifted towards a group of people, who were
laughing loudly.
"There they are." he muttered under his breath,
grabbing my wrists.
He pulled me towards the group, as they all smiled and greeted
Harry.
"Well, whose this beautiful girl?" a guy asked, shaking
his blonde hair away from his eyes.
I flustered, still not used to getting hit on, even if I was
16.
Harry gripped his hands around my wrists tightly.
"This is Colby. I met her yesterday, and she's off
limits." Harry said, trying not to sound too protective.
"Alright, man. Whatever you say." the guy smirked,
raising his hands up in surrender.
I saw Harry's eyes frantically searching the group, as if he
was looking for someone.
Harry let go of my wrists, as he leaned over in a tall, red
headed girl's ear, and whispered.
The red head turned to face him, and said lowly, but still
audible, "She's not here yet."
