Chapter 20
Grace
"Grace! Stop messing around, You're gonna get hurt!" Sam's voice echoed behind me.
"If it happens, it happens!" I shouted behind me.
My feet were racing through the park carrying me towards the stairs leading to the beach where the bonfire was taking place and Sam chasing behind me.
Just as we neared the park, I released his hand, unable for him to grab it back and took off through the park away from him, in a playful manner. Sam took it as a game and a challenge. As I rounded the jungle gym, Sams foot steps behind me dissapeared as I felt alone and somewhat spooked. My head whipped around hearing a cracking noise from a branch.
"BOO!" Sam shouted from behind me.
"AHH!" My eyes went wide as my hand flew to cover my face.
"Gotcha!" Sam yelled triumphantly, tossing me over his shouted.
"You cheated!" I accused him.
"How did I do that?" His voice annoyed.
"I don't know. Secretly?" I wacked his back lightly.
"Whatever." He mumbled placing me back onto my feet.
Sams hand automatically slid into mine tightly as we both heard screaming and shouting as we neared the beach stairs. He protectively held me close to his side as Maggies spotted me just as we hit sand.
"GRACELYN!"
"Maggie!" I replied sounding somewhat cheery.
"I didn't think you were coming!" She announced.
"Of course I did. Wouldn't miss your last night here now would I?" I hugged her tightly.
"Sam." Maggie nodded.
"Hi Maggie." Sam replied kindly.
She dragged me and Sam over to the wooden logs placed around the massive fire, with a crowd of people surrounding it. Two beers were handed towards me and Sam, I turning down the offer, not wanting to drink anymore. Everyone eventually sat down as 2 guitars got pulled out from cases, passing them around for people to play a song, so everyone could relax and wind down.
"Grace's turn." Maggie sang tossing me the light brown acoustic guitar.
"To play what? I haven't played in forever." I replied chuckling.
"Let's sing Pray." Maggie smiled grabbing the other guitar.
"Grade 9 talent show song?" I laughed.
Maggie nodded and started strumming, I chimed in after her and we began to sing.
"I close my eyes... and... pray." I sang out slowly the last line of the song, our strumming coming to an end.
I handed the guitar back to Maggie as people commented on the song, before drifting off into their own conversations. Sam went to go and talk to Noah as well as grab another beer, So i ventured off along the water, and sat down, placing my feet into the cold ripples that washed onto the sand lightly.
"Didn't know you could sing, or play." Sam's voice appeared behind me.
"You never asked." I smiled looking at the ocean.
I felt Sam's arms wrap around my waist, pulling me back into the warmth of his body, hugging me tightly.
"Well, you'll definitely have to play a song for me some time." Sam answered.
There was a quiet moment that came over both of us, as Sam kissed along my neck, I still staring up at the moon and stars, a smile on my face.
"Grace?" Sam broke the silence.
"Mmm." I hummed out quietly.
"I want you to have something." His voice spoke with complete seriousness.
"Whats that?" I asked.
He went quiet for a few moments until I felt cold metal wrap around my neck and slide down my chest. I took a glance down to see dog tags were wrapped around me, revealing Sams information upon them.
"Sam I.." My voice stopped.
"It's not much, but I want you to have them. To have a piece of me." He whispered against my ear.
"Thank you." I replied, leaning back into his chest.
"Grace, one more thing."
"What?" I wondered.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" Sam's voice seemed nervous to ask, but evened with complete confidence.
"Yes." I replied turning around and facing him, a smile spread across his face.
Before he could say anything more, I crushed my lips against his soft plump pink ones and wrapped my arms around his neck. His arms wound around my waist, tugging me onto his lap quickly but gently.
His hands started exploring my body and as they neared my jean button, my hand clasped against his.
"Not here." I replied somewhat scared.
Sam gave me a reassuring look as he nodded towards the park, the direction of his car asking if I wanted to go.
I nodded my head, standing up as he hoisted me onto his back.
We said out goodbyes as Sam quickly hurried back to his car, before taking off, heading in the direction of his flat not to far from here.
