I do not want you if you only want me
with the lights off.
Too many people have loved me like a secret;
like p.orn magazines stashed under the bed;
like a period stain or childhood trauma
or a monster they’re f.ucking scared of.
No.
Love me like a line
from your favorite song;
like a swear word; a nasty habit;
like the tattoos on your right arm.
Love me like a funny story
you can’t wait to share
with family and friends.
Love, will you want me?
Will you love me that way?
Turn the lights on, baby.
I want to be the secret
you don’t know how to keep.

Often, when we have a crush, when we l.ust for a person, we see only a small percentage of who they really are. The rest we make up for ourselves. Rather than listen, or learn, we smother them in who we imagine them to be, what we desire for ourselves, we create little fantasies of people and let them grow in our hearts. And this is where the relationship fails. In time, the fiction we scribble onto a person falls away, the lies we tell ourselves unravel and soon the person standing in front of you is almost unrecognizable, you are now complete strangers in your own love. And what a terrible shame it is. My advice: pay attention to the small details of people, you will learn that the universe is far more spectacular an author than we could ever hope to be.

“One day, whether you
are 14,
28
or 65
you will stumble upon
someone who will start
a fire in you that cannot die.
However, the saddest,
most awful truth
you will ever come to find--
is they are not always
with whom we spend our lives.

I think old fashioned is cute.
I think kisses on the cheek & forehead, actual dinner dates and asking
someone out in person is a lot more romantic. I don't think the guy
should always make the first move, but I feel as if it's cuter if the
guy asks out the girl rather than the other way round because it's
been like that for so long. I liked it when the guy actually valued
their girlfriend and called her 'sweetheart' instead of 'babe'.

"I babysat this six year old, and I was wearing shorts today..
and my scars were showing, I guess. He poked them and he said, "I know how those got there." I replied, "How?" He looked at me with a straight face and he said, 'I've seen them before. My big sister had them, and she said mean people put them on your body when they weren't nice to you, because when people are mean to you, you end up being mean to yourself. My big sister went away. I don't know where she went. Mommy said she's on a happy vacation somewhere, because she was too sad here. I miss her. Don't go on a vacation, please.'"
